Grade 1-3
Mark 14:1-9
Towards the end of Jesus life, at the home of a man named Simon, a woman [Mary] approached Jesus with an expensive jar of perfume. She surprised everyone as she broke the jar and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head. Many were angry and said she could have sold it and given the money to the poor. But Jesus told the crowd to leave her alone. What she had done was a beautiful way to show how much she loved Him and was an important act for what was to happen later, as He would go to the cross for us.
Sometimes it’s hard to understand how we can love God, but if we start to realize that loving God can look like singing worship songs, doing our best, being generous to others or putting others first, then we can love God individually with everything we’ve got.
This month’s memory verse: 1 John 4:10 (NIV) "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."
