How Do I Trust God?

All believers know the importance of trusting God, but when we break this belief down, the issue is really, how do we know we are truly trusting in Him. "I trust God" must be more than just a simple cliche or a religious saying. We know for sure that the enemy will attack our minds to make us question whether or not we are relying on God. But as Christians, there are certain things we can do to verify we are actually depending on Him. Every manifestation we see in our lives is a result of trust. To know for sure that we truly trust God, there is a practical side to trust that we can use to gauge how much we really lean and depend on Him.

It is necessary to be highly developed in our faith.

It is necessary to be highly developed in our faith. Everything that we have been praying about is already done-the issue is knowing what to do to see those manifestations.

Below are some ways to help ensure that you are leaning on God.

  1. Do not depend on yourself - Trust God with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5,6). To trust Him is to rely on, lean on Him, have confidence in His integrity, strength, ability, and surety. It is a confident expectation of something.

  2. Cry out to God - Evening, morning, and noontime I will pray and cry aloud (Psalm 55:17). It's okay to say out loud during your day, "God I totally depend on you."

  3. Run from evil - Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear God, and depart from evil (Proverbs 3:7,8). Flee youthful lusts. Follow righteousness, faith, charity, and peace (2 Timothy 2:22). People trust in the flesh too much. Grace is sufficient and God is always going to love you, but sin always has a consequence. You don't negotiate with sin, you run. Don't do something to open up an inroad for the enemy to come in and stop your progress.

  4. Put God first in your life - Honor God with the first fruits of your increase (Proverbs 3:9-10). We have taken God and have fit Him around our schedule rather than putting Him first. Although He is meant to have first place in our life, we have replaced Him with something or someone. When you replace Him with something or someone, whoever you put in His place is now your idol. This is called idolatry. When you don't value God and His Word, He will not be a priority. What you value and love more than God, that is what you will make your priority. It's not an issue of whether or not you have time to be fed by the Word of God. The issue is do you value it?

  5. Evaluate yourself by His Word (see Psalm 119:130, 105) - Because you totally depend on Him, and might not have time to go turn to your Bible, you need to carry something in your heart.

  6. Listen to the Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit is our comforter, our guide, and our leader. He leads and guides us into the truth. (see John 14:26)

  7. Rest in God's love - It is one thing for you to talk about how much you love God, but another thing for you to understand how much He loves you. If you don't believe God loves you, you won't value anything from God, and you won't trust what He says. He loves us with unconditional and unfailing love. When you find yourself in trouble that is what you bring to your mind. Regardless of what's happening or what you did or didn't do, you have to find Rest in His love, and not negotiate it.

Let's go Deeper! Seek out God and find out what treasures He has for You! Leaning and depending on Him marks the spot.
